Global News Toronto receives proclamation from the City of Toronto for its first annual Greater Toronto Day to be held Thursday, May 26. Keeping with the spirit of its brand promise Global News believes in a greater Toronto, Global News is celebrating by making the Greater Toronto Area a better place to live through an engaging city-wide social media campaign.

Those living in the GTA are encouraged to participate by performing small acts of kindness across the city and sharing them on social media with the hashtag #GreaterTorontoDay. By sharing an act of kindness on social media, three participants will have a chance to win a $1,000 prize to donate towards a local charity of their choice. These small acts can be as little as buying the next person in line a coffee, watering a neighbour’s plants, paying someone’s way on the TTC, or donating to the local food bank, in hopes of making the GTA even greater. Local Corus radio stations, 102.1 the Edge, Q 107, and AM640 are also supporting the initiative, inviting their listeners to join this good deed campaign.

“We all love this city, but there are ways to make Toronto even better,” says Farah Nasser, Anchor, Global News at 5:30 and 6 p.m. “That’s why we’re encouraging people to participate in the Greater Toronto Day campaign. Whether you help one person or an entire community, on May 26th let’s make our beautiful city an even brighter place to live.”

A special Global News at 5:30 & 6 p.m. broadcast will be helmed by anchors Alan Carter and Farah Nasser and highlight the good deeds of people in the GTA who are making Toronto greater, while showcasing citizens who make the GTA a great place to work and live every day. Additional Greater Toronto Day coverage will be featured on The Morning Show, News at Noon, and Global News at 11 p.m.

“By doing small acts of kindness, we can make a positive change in the GTA so rally up your friends, family, and co-workers and start doing some good for #GreaterTorontoDay,” says Alan Carter.

Globalnews.ca will also feature extensive content, interviews, videos, and social media feeds so viewers can catch all the action on-air and online.
