The Canadian Media Producers Association today announced the appointment of Erin Finlay as the CMPA’s new Chief Legal Officer. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, Erin will report to President and CEO Reynolds Mastin and provide legal advice and strategic direction for the Association and its members on a number of key files.
“Erin brings with her a wealth of talent, experience and expertise at a critical point in time for Canadian independent producers and the country’s screen-based industries,” said Mastin. “Her leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that our members have the tools they need to seize the opportunities brought about by our ever-shifting media landscape.”
“Canada’s independent media producers play a critical role in defining and promoting who we are as Canadians,” said Finlay. “I am thrilled to be joining the organization at this important period and look forward to advocating on behalf of our members to ensure that our world-class content continues to thrive in Canada and around the world.”
Finlay’s areas of expertise include entertainment industry-specific litigation, policy development, privacy, copyright, intellectual property, and risk management. Prior to her appointment, Finlay was the Director of Legal and Government Relations and General Counsel for Access Copyright. In her role, she provided legal, strategic, risk management, government relations, policy and operational advice to the organization and its ten thousand Canadian creator and publisher members. Previous to her time at Access Copyright, Finlay was an Associate Lawyer at Cassels Brock & Blackwell where she worked as an advocacy and entertainment lawyer.
She holds a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University and a Master of Laws (LLM) with a specialization in intellectual property law from Osgoode Hall Law School. |
