Following a thorough evaluation and installation process, Canada’s cable-owned, commercial free, independent politics TV network – CPAC (Cable Public Affairs Channel) – moved towards a tapeless workflow with Sundance Digital’s Titan automation package at the core of its digital upgrade.

“This was a large-scale project and we looked at numerous factors during the automation selection process including cost-effectiveness, system redundancy, ease of operation, ability to drive our devices, future integration with our Media Asset Management application, and customer support,” said Eitan Weisz, CPAC’s manager of technical operations. “Sundance came out on top!”

Located in downtown Ottawa just south of Parliament Hill, CPAC’s broadcast centre provides around the clock political and public affairs programming to over 9.5 million homes in Canada by cable, satellite and wireless distributors, and worldwide via 24/7 webcasting and podcasts.

CPAC’s 2-channel Titan configuration drives one on-air channel and the network’s web stream. The automation suite is comprised of Titan Air and Media Prep Stations to manage content on an Omneon Video Server, Intelli-Sat™ Broadcast Manager to schedule and record feeds, and TitanSync™ for redundancy,

The highly-scalable system controls a Sony HDSX 3700 router, Sony IMX VTRs, Quartz QMC-SD master control switcher with CP-FS control panel, Chyron Character Generator, and an Evertz Caption Encoder and Logo Generator. Titan is also closely interfaced with CPAC’s BroadView Traffic System.

Weisz added, “We needed to customize certain features to maximize workflow and Sundance was sensitive to our needs and very accommodating. They designed modifications to their standard interface and wrote drivers to facilitate changes.”
