Former broadcast executive Eric Morrison has been appointed Senior Vice-President of Editorial at Sun Media, and he’ll lead a major reorganization of its news operations on all platforms.
Morrison -- the former President of The Canadian Press and an award-winning journalist and broadcast executive for CTV -- will head a national editorial management structure that will integrate the resources of Sun Media’s English-language newspapers, websites and broadcast channels.
Sun Media says its advertising and industrial operations will also be reorganized to focus on customers and on local and national business opportunities across all properties for customers and advertisers.
“Eric Morrison is one of Canada's most experienced news executives and is uniquely qualified to shape a modern, national newsgathering operation,” Pierre Karl Peladeau, President and CEO of Sun Media, said in a release. "This is an important step in Sun Media's drive to deliver high quality news to Canadians, both in the multimedia environment and via our established newspapers, which continue to be the foundation of our operations."
"Creating an effective news organization that will build on the strengths of the Sun Media network is an exciting mission,” Morrison added. “All the Sun newspapers, the community papers, local websites and the Canoe national portal are distinctive in that they have always maintained strong links to real people and their real concerns in the communities they serve.

“Our objective is to create a powerful system that not only improves our editorial products but also structures our sales and operations systems to succeed in today’s media marketplace,” Peladeau added.
Sun Media Corporation, a subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc., operates television properties, paid-circulation daily newspapers, companion websites as well as six free dailies in Canada’s largest urban markets. Sun Media Corporation includes the activities of Osprey Media and Canoe.ca, an integrated enterprise offering e-commerce, information and communication services.
Quebecor operates the TVA Groupe of French-language broadcast properties, and Videotron, a provincial cable TV and Internet provider.
