APTN Congratulates Gemini Winners
Aboriginal Peoples Television Network wishes to acknowledge and congratulate those programs associated with the network which received award recognition by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television during the recent 21st annual Gemini Awards ceremonies.The made-for-television movie One Dead Indian earned three of the seven award categories it was nominated in including, Best Direction in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series, Best Writing in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series and Best Sound in a Dramatic Program during the broadcast gala at the River Rock Show Theatre November 4th.
Nominees previously announced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, also included the APTN series, Moccasin Flats Season III and renegadepress.com, and The Velvet Devil, the critically-acclaimed one-woman Canadian stage play starring Andrea Menard.
renegadepress.com was awarded the Gemini in two of the four categories it was nominated in at the earlier three-day gala event in Toronto October 17th. The Gemini for Best Writing in a Children's or Youth Program or Series was awarded to Jordan Wheeler for the episode titled, The Rez, while actor Ksenia Solo accepted the Gemini award for Best Performance in a Childrens' or Youth Program or Series for her performance in the episode titled Fear.
The 2024 Canada Award was also awarded to an APTN program for, "excellence in mainstream television programming that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Canada." APTN extends its congratulations to the producers, cast and crew of the APTN series Wapos Bay for its Canada Award recognition for the production of Wapos Bay � There's No "I" in Hockey.
All four programs received funding from and/or were commissioned by APTN through Canadian independent producers.
