    Veteran broadcast sales executive Dick Moody passed away May 20th at the age of 88.  Richard Ross Moody was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1927. Better known as Dick Moody, he grew up in Saskatoon and at age 27 became associated with the broadcast industry’s sales arm in a career that spanned nearly 30 years.

    Hired in 1956 as the station’s sales promotion manager, by Jack Blick, founder and owner of radio station CJOB Winnipeg, he had risen to be Assistant Station Manager when he left the radio station in 1964 to join the newly formed Standard Broadcast Sales Company a division of Standard Broadcasting Corporation headquartered in Toronto.

    In 1971 Moody was appointed President of SBS. By 1985, he became Senior Vice President of Standard Broadcasting Corporation and he ended his association with the company that year when Slaight Communications acquired control of SBC from the Argus Corporation.

    In the mid 1970’s he was active in the development of SBC (UK) which at one time held equity positions in 15 newly formed commercial radio stations throughout Great Britain including a 27% share of Capital Radio in London.

    As President of Standard Broadcast Sales, Dick Moody made significant contributions to the company’s growth and at one time, the company had sales offices in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Vancouver, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and briefly in Milan, and was considered one of the largest broadcast sales organizations then in existence.

    Following his retirement from SBC in 1985, Dick served as the Executive Director of the Ontario Cable Telecommunications Association from 1986 to 1991.

    He saw service on the following Boards of Directors: Standard Broadcasting Corporation; the Radio Bureau of Canada; the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement; Capital Radio (London); Broadcast Marketing Services, (London); Ontario Cable Telecommunications Association.

    He served for five years as President of the Broadcast Representatives Association of Canada, and was voted “Man of the Year” by the Sales & Marketing Club in Winnipeg.

    Married in 1952 to Jeanette McLeod of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Dick became the proud father of Donald (Huntsville, Ontario) and Debra, (Victoria, B.C.) and grandfather of Donald’s son Myles.
