CTV News and Documentaries Take 5 Gemini Awards

    At the first of three consecutive galas for the 20th Annual Gemini Awards recognizing News, Documentaries and Sports last night, CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson took home the prize for Best Newscast. CTV News’ David Akin received the Gemini nod for Best Reportage, a category that also recognized CTV’s Lisa LaFlamme and Janis Mackey Frayer.

    Currently in its 40th season, W-FIVE was honoured with the prize for Best News Information Series.

    Rounding out the wins for CTV were two original documentaries bringing home prizes for Best Biography Documentary Program for Ronnie Hawkins: Still Alive And Kickin’, and Best Sports Program or Series for Ben Johnson, Drugs & The Quest For Gold.

    “Canadian viewers have long known our news, public affairs and documentaries programming is the best in this country, and voters caught up to the nation,” said Robert Hurst, President of CTV News.

    CTV’s Chief News Anchor and Senior News Editor, Lloyd Robertson, is nominated for the Best News Anchor award being presented at the Gemini Awards Gala on Saturday, November 19.
