Aboriginal Peoples Television Network congratulates the producers, casts and crews of Wolf Canyon, Inuit Odyssey, New Canoe, The Mix, Tiga Talk, Doggy Day Care, and Nehiyawetan for their award wins and nominations at the 2010 Leo Awards.
Wolf Canyon, starring Lorne Cardinal, Kevin Sorbo, and Nikki Payne, received five award wins and two additional nominations at the 2010 Leo Awards. Wolf Canyon is about a dysfunctional cast and crew of a third-rate syndicated television series who are isolated from any urban contact and who struggle to fight spirit-numbing boredom and madness in their makeshift trailer town on an Aboriginal reservation. The series won for Best Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series as well as Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture Editing in the Best Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series Category. Jessica Harmon won for her performance in Wolf Canyon in the Best Performance or Host (s) in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series. Matty Finochio and Lorne Cardinal also received nominations in this category.
Inuit Odyssey, a documentary based on a circumpolar expedition with adventurer Niobe Thompson, was nominated for Best Musical Score in a Documentary Program or Series.
New Canoe, a series which features contemporary and traditional Aboriginal arts, musicians, dancers, authors, and language specialists was nominated for three Leo Awards including Best Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series. The series also received a nomination for Best Direction in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series, and host Art Napoleon was nominated for Best Performance or Host (s) in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series.
The Mix, a series which profiles a variety of Aboriginal musicians, was nominated for Best Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series and for Best Picture Editing in a Music, Comedy, or Variety Program or Series.
Several series featured in APTN’s children’s programming received nominations, including Doggy Day Care which was nominated for Best Screenwriting in an Animation Program or Series. Kate La Faith Hanuse received a nomination for Best Performance in a Youth or Children’s Program or Series for her performance in Tiga Talk. Nehiyawetan was nominated for Best Youth or Children’s Program or Series and directors Jason Krowe and Kamala Todd were nominated for Best Direction in a Youth or Children’s Program or Series.

The awards were presented at the annual gala, held Saturday, June 5th at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver, British Columbia. The Leo Awards were established in 1998 to celebrate excellence in British Columbia film and television.
