As announced today at an upfront presentation to advertisers and agency clients at Corus Entertainment’s Toronto headquarters, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will launch in Canada on March 1, 2022, following the U.S. premiere January 1, 2022. OWN is a multi-platform media company designed to entertain, inform, and inspire people to live their best lives.
“There’s a great deal of excitement about the upcoming March 1 launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network in Canada,” said Susan Schaefer, VP, Head of Networks and Marketing, Corus Entertainment. “Oprah has an extensive, engaged community of Canadian women who really trust and are loyal to her brand. With 50% of women already aware of OWN before we’re out of the gate, we’re in a great position to build this into one of Canada’s premier brands; one that will truly resonate with audiences and be a great complement to our other Women’s services.”
To promote the channel prior to the launch, W Network and VIVA will air nested blocks of OWN programming throughout January and February. Offering a strong mix of OWN shows, the nested blocks will provide audiences with a sampling of what OWN has to offer. On March 1, 2022, OWN will launch in over six million Canadian homes on what is currently VIVA.
OWN will be available in Canada based on a licence agreement with OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is a joint venture between Harpo, Inc. and Discovery Communications, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is a multiplatform media company designed to entertain and inspire people to live their best lives. In the U.S. OWN will debut on January 1, 2022, in approximately 80 million homes on what is currently the Discovery Health Channel. The venture also will include the award-winning digital platform Oprah.com.
