For the first edition of the awards, Concordia students had to produce a five- to seven-minute radio documentary based on the theme “What You Didn’t Know About Montreal.” Winners Chris Aitkens and Nathalie Laflamme received the awards for documentaries about emerging Montreal artists. The productions were selected based on their quality and originality, as judged by professors from the university.
“The Faculty of Arts and Science is tremendously proud of our journalism program. This generous award will enable our students to gain a first-hand understanding of what’s involved at working at one of Montreal’s leading radio stations, while providing financial aid during their studies. On behalf of our Faculty, many thanks to our good friends at CJAD 800”, André Roy, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science, Concordia University.
The awards are a way of paying homage to the late journalist Gord Sinclair, who passed away in 2022. “Being able to offer these awards in honour of a CJAD 800 legend makes us extremely proud,” said Chris Bury, Program & News Director, CJAD 800 and TSN 690.
