The votes are in and the Kid’s Jury has spoken – children from every corner of Canada have chosen Wingin’ It Season 2 as the winner of the 7th annual Shaw Rocket Prize.
Part of the Shaw Rocket Fund, the Rocket Prize awards $50,000 annually to an independently-produced Canadian children’s, youth, or family program and its associated digital content. Five finalists were chosen by an international panel of industry judges for this year’s Prize, with voting from children 12 and under to choose their favourite program.
Produced by Temple Street Productions, Wingin’ It follows a typical teenager trying to survive high school and an “Angel-in-Trainin'” as they work their way through magical mishaps. This creative series also gives viewers a chance to participate in the show by voting on alternate endings and engaging with cast members on social media.
“Delivering innovative and educational programming to families and children is important to us at Shaw,” said Peter Bissonnette, President, Shaw Communications Inc. “We’re proud to showcase and promote quality Canadian family programming each year, such as Wingin’ It, through the Shaw Rocket Prize.”
Four scholarships each worth $2,500 were awarded to children participating in the vote. Kids were also invited to submit a video vote for a chance to win a trip to Ottawa to attend the Shaw Rocket Prize awards ceremony.
“From all of us at Wingin’ It we are thrilled to be a part of the Shaw Rocket Prize and would like to thank everyone for helping us win this award,” said David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg of Temple Street Productions. “Winning the Shaw Rocket Prize is extra special because it’s awarded by a very important judging panel – the kids.”
