  • TORONTO – With Standard Radio grabbing Humble & Fred from Corus’ Mojo Radio to take the morning slot at MIX 99.9 FM, we figure it’s only natural that Mojo would sign a Standard man as its new morning leader.

Yesterday, "Talk Radio for Guys," Mojo Radio, (AM640) announced the signing of John Oakley to a long-term contract as morning most. Terms of the deal were not released and the company said that more announcements in terms of additional morning personalities and a start date would be coming at a later date.

"John has been the leading talk personality in Toronto for a number of years and in many ways helped to pioneer ‘Talk Radio for Guys’ with his unique, clever and entertaining style," said MOJO program director, Scott Armstrong in an announcement to staff. "His background and continuing relationships in the world of standup comedy will fit perfectly with what mornings are all about on MOJO."

Oakley has spent the past 12 years with Standard Broadcasting at CFRB, and said he’s thrilled with the opportunity to move to the morning slot. "I can’t wait to get started," he said. "The creative freedom and fun at MOJO is infectious for both listeners and staff."

Joining Oakley in the move is his long-time producer Richard Syrett.

"Since MOJO’s inception, we have always felt that John would be a perfect fit," added general manager JJ Johnston. "The handcuffs are off for his fun, irreverent and stimulating style of talk. This truly reinforces the commitment of Corus Entertainment to MOJO Radio for the long-term. We are ahead of our plan and are excited about the future of our truly unique brand."
