Aboriginal Peoples Television Network wishes to recognize the producers, cast and crew of the APTN series renegadepress.com, particularly Jordan Wheeler and Ksenia Solo, for their outstanding contributions to the show and their resulting Gemini Award wins.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced many of its television award winners during a three-night gala event in Toronto this week. renegadepress.com was awarded the Gemini in two of the four categories it was nominated. The Gemini for Best Writing in a Children’s or Youth Program or Series was awarded to Jordan Wheeler for the episode titled, The Rez, while actor Ksenia Solo accepted the Gemini award for Best Performance in a Childrens’ or Youth Program or Series for her performance in the episode titled Fear.
Nominees for the 21st Annual Gemini Awards, previously announced by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, also included the made-for-television movie, One Dead Indian and the APTN series, Moccasin Flats Season III. All three programs received funding from and/or were commissioned by APTN through Canadian independent producers.
“APTN has made major changes in the past few years to assist in the development of the Aboriginal production community and the recognition granted by these awards and nominees show that we are having success in this regard,” stated Judy Gingell, APTN Board Chair. “On behalf of the Board, I want to congratulate all nominees and winners who are making our goal of sharing our stories a reality.”
