CTV News and Bell Media Radio properties were honoured for excellence in electronic journalism during the annual RTDNA of Canada National Conference Gala in Toronto. Before an audience of fellow electronic journalists and news managers, the RTDNA honoured CTV National News with Lisa LaFlamme with the distinguished Bert Cannings Award for Best Network Television Newscast for the fifth consecutive year. CTV News Kitchener was also honoured with the Bert Cannings Award in the category of Best Newscast, Medium Market. In total, Bell Media properties took home 14 awards this evening, bringing the 2016 tally of national and regional RTDNA awards to 49.
Returning to the spotlight during the ceremony, CTV News’ Chief News Anchor and Senior Editor LaFlamme was presented with the RTDNA’s highest honour, receiving the 2024 RTDNA President’s Award for the trailblazing journalistic accomplishments in her career to date.
“The outstanding body of work and breadth of storytelling recognized by the RTDNA tonight reflects the passion and unwavering commitment our news team each and every day across all platforms,” said Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News. “We’re privileged to serve Canadians with news they can trust, and proud to be honoured with the RTDNA’s top industry distinction.”
On the radio front, Bell Media’s radio stations Newstalk 1010 (Toronto) received National Award honours, garnering the Gord Sinclair Award for Live Special Events, and TSN 1290 (Winnipeg) picked up the Sam Ross Award for Editorial/Commentary.
