  • Canada’s participation in the First and

Second World Wars is well documented, yet many Canadians are unaware of the contribution Canada made during the Korean War.

With the 55th anniversary of the end of the Korean War being commemorated this month, the Canadian Public Affairs Channel will air The War Amps award-winning documentary, KOREA: Canada’s Forgotten War Sunday, July 27th and on Monday, July 28th.

Produced by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, the one-hour documentary takes viewers to the battle areas and monuments in Korea that are part of our
nation’s history. It also features veterans, many returning to Korea for the first time, telling what it was like fighting a war in a country that Canadians knew very little about. Archival film and photographs bring their
memories of “the forgotten war” to life.

When Canada’s 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry sailed for Korea in November 1950, it was assumed that the war would end shortly.

Canada sent 26,791 soldiers to battle in Korea. More than 1,200 were seriously wounded and 516 never came home. After the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953, the Canadians returned home amid little fanfare.
