  • In the old Auditorium, at the corner of Catherine and O¿Connor Streets amid ten thousand spectators, at precisely 8:05 PM, Saturday, May 3, 1947, Ottawa mayor Stanley Lewis stepped to the microphone and said, ¿it is with pleasure and pride that I officially announce, Radio Station CFRA in the City of Ottawa officially ¿On The Air¿!

This Thursday night beginning at 5:50pm, 60 years later, 580 CFRA will be recreating that broadcast live from the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. Steve Madely and Lowell Green will anchor CFRA¿s milestone show and welcome back to the microphone such legendary Ottawa radio names as Terry Kielty, Ken ¿The General¿ Grant, Don Leger, and Bill Drake. BOB FM¿s Steve Gregory will serve as the evening¿s host.

For those not able to attend, the historic broadcast will be carried live via webcast on www.cfra.com in living ¿black and white¿.
