Celebrating 50 Years With Lowell Green

  • Some love him, some not so much. But on April 20th, over 850 Canadians from all walks of life converged on the Ottawa Civic Centre Salons to celebrate Lowell Green’s 50th Anniversary in Canadian broadcasting.

    580 CFRA’s Steve Madely hosted this evening featuring a celebration of Lowell Green’s 50 years as a broadcaster. The evening included a toast to Lowell Green by “Celebrity Roasters” including, Ken “The General” Grant, CTV’s Mike Duffy, Ontario Conservative Party leader John Tory, Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli and original CFRA General Manager Terry Kielty. As well, the evening featured a salute by General Rick Hillier, Chief of Defence Staff and taped messages from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. A special surprise speech was made by the Russelle family to thank Lowell for his efforts in helping raise over $120,000 in one morning, enabling young Aiden Russelle receive life saving surgery in Cincinnati.

    A total of $89,000.00 was raised at the event and will benefit “Food Aid 2024”, a co-operative effort that raises money for the Ottawa Food Bank, which purchases beef from local farmers, and in turn distributes nutritional, high-quality beef to food banks and soup kitchens throughout the Eastern Ontario region. This program also helps the struggling local beef farming industry, supports the processing industry, and puts nutritious helpings of fresh beef onto the tables of needy families in our region.
