SHOPTV Canada Expands Coverage AreaSeptember 1, 2022
by -- Torstar Media GroupSHOPTV is now available to consumers in Oakville and Burlington, Ont. under a new agreement between Torstar Media Group Television (TMG TV) and Cogeco Cable.
Beginning today, the 24-hour shopping channel will be carried to another 97,600 homes as part of Cogeco's basic service on channel 78, increasing SHOPTV�s penetration to approximately 1.5 million homes in southern Ontario.
"We are excited to be expanding our coverage area to the Oakville/Burlington region on Cogeco Cable,� said Nancy Brown-Dacko, Vice President and General Manager of TMG TV. "Our new subscribers will now enjoy the unique and diverse shopping opportunities available on SHOPTV Canada."
SHOPTV Canada, a division of Torstar Media Group Television, which is owned and operated by Toronto Star Newspapers Limited, has been broadcasting infomercials 24 hours a day since 1997.
Cogeco Cable is the second largest cable operator in both Ontario and Qu�bec, and ranks fourth in Canada in terms of the number of basic service customers it serves.

Since 1997, SHOPTV Canada has seen a steady expansion of clientele using infomercials to advertise. Most recently, with its production company, SHOPTV has produced and aired programs for such clients as Ontario Place, Canada Savings Bonds and Hakim Optical.
On a global scale, the Direct Response Television industry is expected to grow to $2 trillion by the end of this year. By comparison, the film industry is expected to reach $450 billion by the end of next year. This means that Direct Response Television outpaces the movie industry by more than a 4 to 1 ratio.
