Panasonic Canada is unveiling two Astrovision outdoor screens in popular tourism areas of Toronto and Niagara Falls this month. The largest outdoor Astrovision screen in Canada will be erected on the outside of the Olympic Spirit Toronto Complex in Dundas Square and an Astrovision board is being hoisted high on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls.

“These Astrovision screens will instantly catch the eyes of every pedestrian in the area,” says Ian Kilvert, General Manager of Corporate Communications, Panasonic Canada Inc. “Since these two locations will be visited by millions of tourists each year, we think advertisers will be as enthusiastic about these boards as we are.”

The Astrovision screen in Toronto will be 74.23 square meters (799 square feet) and is part of Panasonic’s previously announced sponsorship of the Olympic Spirit attraction, a 4,831 square meter (52,000 square feet) complex which celebrates the Olympic dream with interactive entertainment and educational displays.

The screen will dominate the façade of the Olympic Spirit building and will be visible throughout Dundas Square. Programming on the screen will feature Olympic moments and will be available for commercial advertising.

The Astrovision screen will consist of 504 LED modules with 164 pixels per square foot. It weighs approximately 2.167 tonnes. BriteLite Media will manage all advertising for the Dundas Square Astrovision.

“We believe our advertisers will benefit with more clarity, more vibrant colors and more vivid images,” says Dick Gillespie, CEO, BriteLite Media. “We are excited to be working with Panasonic to deliver the best signage Dundas Square has to offer."

The Olympic Spirit attraction will exclusively feature Panasonic audio and visual technology in all its interactive and presentation displays including the main theatre.

The Astrovision screen in Niagara Falls will be a prominent feature in the center of the tourist district at the corner of Victoria Street and Clifton Hill. The area hosts more than 15 million tourists a year.

The Niagara Falls Astrovision screen will consist of 130 LED modules with 164 pixels per square foot and will be 19.71 square metres (212 square feet). It weighs approximately 1 tonne. RoadSide TV Network will manage all advertising for the Clifton Hill Astrovision.

“We look forward to the excitement that Panasonic technology will bring to this venue,” says Sandy Bishop, Director of Sales, RoadSide TV Network. “The unique placement of the Astrovision screen at the top of Clifton Hill will provide our advertisers with a dominant position in the heart of one of the most high profile destinations in the world.”

Both Astrovision screens produce more than 1.7 billion colors with 10-bit color brightness through proprietary image-enhancing technology.

The screens will both be installed this August. Both units were designed at Panasonic’s factory in Yokohama, Japan. The cost of the units was not available.

Panasonic has been a strong supporter of the Olympic movement since the Winter Games in Calgary in 1988. Panasonic Canada Inc. (PCI) is a principal Canadian subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI) of Japan, one of the world’s largest producers of electronics and electric products for consumer, business and industrial use. Panasonic’s home page is www.panasonic.ca.
