Studer’s new Vista 8 live broadcast console looked like being the star attraction from the moment this Spring’s AES Convention got underway in Berlin, the constant activity around the large-frame desk providing genuine cause for optimism.

But nothing had quite prepared the Swiss company for the instant commitment it would receive from the marketplace. For within the first month of its European launch, sales have exceeded even the wildest of forecasts, Studer confirming initial orders for 12 x Vista 8’s — with a further seven anticipated.

The new console’s features captured the wholesale imagination of the broadcast industry in Berlin, with the result that orders for single Vista 8’s have been placed by Trondelag Teater in Trondheim, Norway; Swedish Educational Network UR in Stockholm, Sweden; an HDTV OB-truck (32 cameras) for Primevision in Copenhagen, Denmark, and another high profile venue in the same city; BBC Radio Resources mobile studio, to be based in London, UK; the Radio Production Studio at ORF in Vienna, Austria and RTL Broadcast Center Europe in Luxemburg.

In addition, a pair of Vista 8’s will be commissioned for the Spanish speaking TV network, TeleFutura/Univision Network, in Miami, USA — and three Vista 8’s feature in the design for the Oriental Arts Center in Shanghai, China.

With the Vista 8, Studer has extended the limits of the highly successful VISTA range even further, adding a very powerful VISTONICS based output section, an optional redundant control system and combining the automation capabilities of the Vista 7 and the on-air ergonomics of the Vista 6.

Vista 8 has a completely redesigned central control bay housing 12 faders and a Vistonics TFT screen, with direct access to up to 52 output signals. With its full width fader panel Vista 8 is ideally suited to fitting in compact locations such as smaller control rooms and mobiles.

Of this outstanding achievement, Studer President, Bruno Hochstrasser, remarks, “Vistonics, as used in our Vista series of mixing consoles, has added a new level of ergonomics to digital consoles, and our customers highly appreciate this innovation. With more than 80 Vista series console sold to date within a very short time period we see a high level of acceptance of this new concept.

“The addition of the Vista 8 console adds significantly to the application range of Vista consoles now also covering mission critical live applications in broadcast as well as in public address systems such as in concert halls, opera venues and theatres.”
