TORONTO, April 14 /CNW/ - Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV) today
announced the first sale of its new all-MPEG-2 stream manipulation product,
the Digital Turnaround Processor(TM) (DTP), to national television network
HDNet, the leader in high-definition broadcasting. The DTP will also be on
exhibit at the upcoming NAB 2024 convention, opening April 19 in Las Vegas.

By deploying the DTP at its network operations center, HDNet can brand
the signals and overlay informative messages without requiring decoding and
re-encoding. HDNet performs the real-time encoding process at its
state-of-the-art mobile units and on the output of its editing rooms. This
maximizes the video quality of 1080i high definition from origination all the
way to the cable headends and the consumer.

"The DTP enables HDNet to extend the capability of its all-MPEG-2 high-
definition master control," said Philip Garvin, general manager and chief
operating officer of HDNet. "Now, we can key-in branding and graphic messages
without decoding. This further ensures the highest quality of HD programming
    to HDNet's customers."

HDNet counts key multi-channel service providers as customers, including
Adelphia Communications, Charter Communications, DIRECTV, DISH Network and
    Time Warner Cable.

With multiple U.S. patents issued and pending for its leading-edge
technology, the DTP represents the second generation of all-MPEG-2 processing
products leveraging the ongoing success of Leitch's AgileVision product line,
the leading choice of ATSC stations in the U.S. for MPEG-2 stream processing
over the last two years. With the DTP, a remotely encoded DTV signal can be
manipulated to result in motion logo overlays, Emergency Alert Systems,
crawls, advertisement tag overlays, clock overlays, stock information and
local weather and news. By performing these functions in the MPEG-2 domain,
video quality is maximized at lower originating bit rates.

"We are pleased to introduce the DTP to the market with the support of a
customer such as HDNet, a pioneer in the world of HD broadcasting," said Tim
Thorsteinson, Leitch president and chief executive officer. "Leitch's Digital
Turnaround Processor has been designed to meet broadcasters' MPEG-2
manipulation needs at a very competitive price, and we are confident this
product will enhance HDNet's ability to continue to provide the highest level
    of digital broadcast quality available."
