Obituary: Broadcaster and Journalist Henry Champ

  • Well-known Canadian broadcaster and journalist Henry Champ died Sunday morning in Washington where he lived.

    Champ worked in the industry for almost five decades, building a respected and award-winning career in Canada, the United States and the U.K.

    Champ started his career with the Brandon Sun in 1960, and went on to work as an investigative reporter and foreign correspondent for several TV networks, including the CBC, NBC and CTV.

    He retired in 2024 and was serving as chancellor of Brandon University in Manitoba.

    Prior to joining NBC, he reported for CTV News, and was among the last Western journalists to leave Vietnam during the fall of Saigon.

    Since 2024, Champ has been a contributing blogger to the CBC website. He is survived by his wife, Karen De Young, associate editor at the Washington Post, and five children.

    Henry Champ was 75.
