IHeartRadio MMVA Winners Announced

  • THE 2024 IHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards announces this year’s biggest winner, international R&B sensation Drake, taking home five awards, the most of the night. Drake collected hardware for Video Of The Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Most Buzzworthy Canadian, Best Director (“Hotline Bling”, Director X), and, along with Majid Jordan, Best MuchFACT Video for their hit single “My Love”, which features the Canadian rapper.

     

     

     

    Hometown star Alessia Cara, who made her debut on the  stage, took home her first award  forBest New Canadian Artist, while Nick Jonas scooped up the award for  International Artist of the Year before amazing fans by performing on the sidewalk, the first time in  history that an artist has performed on the street. Fan-favourite performers Fifth Harmony and Shawn Mendes each took home two awards, with Fifth Harmony winning Most Buzzworthy International Artist or Group and Fan Fave International Artist or Group, and Mendes taking home Best Pop Video and Fan Fave Video for “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, a collaboration with Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello.

    International supermodel Gigi Hadid was in full command of the stage, leading a standout evening filled with the world’s biggest names in popular music and entertainment. Hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis opened the show with an epic rendition of their viral single “Dance Off” featuring a live dance off between presenters Amber Rose and Lilly Singh. Later in the show, Canadian rockers Hedley let the audience join in and sing during their electrifying performance of “Lose Control”, before  winner Shawn Mendes sang new single “Treat You Better” in a broadcast debut performance of the track.

    Many debut performers were featured on the broadcast, including singer-songwriter James Bay who performed a stunning version of  “Let it Go”; hip-hop artist Desiigner who had fans screaming for his breakout hit “Panda”; indie pop duo Tegan and Sara who performed their addictive single “Boyfriend”; JUNO Award-winning indie rock band July Talk who performed “Push + Pull”; pop singer Hailee Steinfeld with B.C. hit-maker Shawn Hook who sang a medley of their  singles “Rock Bottom” and “Sound of Your Heart”; and pop super-group Fifth Harmony, who closed the show with a sexy performance of hit “Work from Home”.

    The  hardware was handed out by an impressive list of personalities including Alx Veliz, Hailey Baldwin, Jus ReignMarianas Trench, Robbie Amell, Ruth B, Scott Helman, Shemar Moore, Sofia Carson, SonReal, Tyler Posey, and stars ofPRETTY LITTLE LIARSAshley Benson, Lucy Hale, and Shay Mitchell.

    A community of  fans converged on social media tonight to share their love for the annual street level awards show with thousands of fans sharing posts across multiple social media platforms including Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. On Twitter alone there were more than 370,000 tweets posted today using #MMVAs, with  related hashtags holding six of the Top 10 trending topics, with #MMVAs trending internationally. Talent who took to the  stage weren’t shy about shouting out on social media, with Nick Jonas, Tegan & Sara, Camila Cabello, Nash Grier, Shawn Mendes, and Desiigner all posting about #MMVAs.
