  • In advance of MIPCOM, CBC/Radio-Canada has announced the acquisition of worldwide broadcast and

digital rights to The Wild Canadian Year, a spectacular five-part series (5 X 52’) from the award-winning filmmaking team behind Wild Canada. CBC/Radio-Canada is offering international broadcasters the unique opportunity to pre-license the series and secure rights in territories outside of Canada.

Commissioned by the CBC, The Wild Canadian Year is produced by River Road Films and executive produced by Caroline Underwood (One Ocean, Lords of the Arctic, Suzuki Diaries: Coastal Canada), produced and directed by Jeff and Sue
Turner (Wild Canada, Spirit Bear Family, Wolves and Buffalo), Jeff Morales (NatGeo Wild: Wild Alaska, Florida Untamed), and creative producer Louise Ferguson (Lost Land of the Jaguar, Extreme Animals).

Shot in ultra HD 4K, the series celebrates Canada’s breathtaking landscapes over the course of four seasons through the use of the latest in camera technology, including: ultra-high resolution digital cameras, aerial drones, motion capture equipment, miniature and high-speed cameras, and new camera stabilization systems. The highly anticipated series is produced by Jeff and Sue Turner, Canada’s pre-eminent wildlife filmmakers, whose credits include: Planet Earth (BBC), Frozen Planet (BBC), and Wild Canada (CBC).

“We are very excited to offer The Wild Canadian Year to international broadcasters,” says Olivier Trudeau, Senior Director, Distribution & Partnerships, CBC & Radio-Canada Media Solutions. “This stunning celebration of Canada’s wildlife and beautiful terrain, shot in 4K, provides an opportunity for international broadcasters to add a unique series to their natural history catalogue, and to share an immersive viewing experience with their audiences.”

A pre-license will also include the opportunity to air the series at or about the same time as the CBC Television world premiere. The series, which is currently in production, will be ready for release in the fall of 2024.
