NEC debuts 42-inch plasma displays

NEC has enhanced its plasma line designed specifically for public display applications with the introduction of its new 42-inch displays, the PlasmaSync 42VP4 and 42VP4D. The displays build upon NEC's Public Display (PD) Series design with a 25 per cent contrast ratio increase and better image quality in addition to offering the lowest power consumption of any 42-inch plasma display available today at 275 watts.

The new Public Display Series generation offers a variety of features important to public display users, including the choice between an anti-glare screen (in the 42VP4D) for high ambient lighting conditions and an anti-reflective screen (in the 42VP4) for normal conditions. The new models can be configured in a three x three display matrix without an external processor for a larger-than-life display with even greater impact.

The displays also feature built-in 8W x 8W stereo audio and a built-in programmable timer allowing the displays to virtually operate themselves. With the lowest power consumption and most phosphor protection modes of any 42-inch plasma, the 42VP4 and 42VP4D displays also give users lower operating costs and greater durability for any public display application. With a wide VGA panel and progressive scan driving method, the new displays allow for sharp, crisp images that are stable and flicker-free.

The 42VP4 and 42VP4D are the first displays to feature new NEC technologies for jitter-free images and reduced distortion, along with new advances to smooth jagged lines and correct color bleeds for clear, stable color images and easy-to-read text. The highest video and data display quality is ensured thanks to Advanced AccuBlend scaling technology, motion-compensated 3D scan conversion, 3/2 pulldown, Capsulated Color Filter technology for realistic color and AccuCrimson technology for pure reds.

The new PD Series displays give users built-in versatility, with a comprehensive standard input panel along with a set of RS232 commands for remote operation and diagnostics. The 42VP4 and 42VP4D design reserves space for a small form PC, and a cable management system guarantees a clean appearance without costly enclosures. The thin, lightweight displays can be wall-mounted to preserve valuable floor space, and can operate in either portrait or landscape orientation for installation flexibility.
