TORONTO - The Canadian Film Centre today announced a $3 million gift from the Telus Foundation. The Foundation was established by Telus to foster a culture of excellence and creativity in Canada's film, TV and new media industries.

This contribution, the single largest gift the Film Centre has ever received, will be used to directly invest in Canadian talent and projects through the newly created Telus Innovation Fund for Film, TV & New Media. As well, it will enhance existing Canadian Film Centre initiatives in training, production, promotion and scholarships.

"The Canadian Film Centre is proud to partner with Telus to promote creativity and innovation, an intrinsic element of the future prosperity of Canada's film, TV and new media industries and cultural community," said Wayne Clarkson, Executive Director. "This generous gift is a key example of a private sector company helping the Canadian Film Centre to fulfill its mission of advancing Canadian creative values, talent, and content worldwide."

"Telus is deeply proud to support the advancement of the arts in Canada," said Darren Entwistle, Telus president and CEO. "Today's announcement highlights our commitment to enriching the lives of Canadians in communities where we live and work through arts and the innovative use of technology."

The Canadian Film Centre's Habitat New Media Lab will house the Telus Studio. Inside the Telus Studio, the internationally acclaimed, award-winning new media program will be named the Telus Interactive Art & Entertainment programme and will bring to life the kind of team-based, self-directed and project-driven collaborations that characterize pioneering explorations in new media.

The majority of Telus' contribution will be used to invest in Canadian film, TV and new media talent and projects through the Telus Innovation Fund, which will reflect the fundamental Telus values of innovation, teamwork and a passion for growth. The Canadian Film Centre will launch the Telus Innovation Fund for Film, TV, & New Media in the spring of 2025.
