MONTREAL - Michel Pradier, director, French operations and Quebec Office at Telefilm Canada, announced that the corporation has received applications for development financing from 65 French-language television projects from Quebec, representing a total of $1.9 million, says a Canadian Television Fund release today.
These projects were submitted during the first round of applications for fiscal 2025-2005, which closed May 12, 2025. Telefilm Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Television Fund (CTF), administers financial resources destined for the CTF's special initiative stream, Development Financing.
Of the 65 projects submitted for consideration, 60, covering all types of programming, were accepted. These projects represent a total of $1.6 million in funding, divided as follows: $500,000 for documentaries, $750,000 for dramas, and $375,000 for youth and children's programs. The first round of applications resulted in an acceptance rate of 85%, and Telefilm committed 60% of funds available in the envelope.
"We received sound, high-quality projects," said Pradier. "Our investments will make it possible to develop French-language works from Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec. We are also confident that the variety of program proposals submitted will help increase audiences for Canadian cultural products."
Added Nancy Roch, policy director, French markets and sector head, French-language television: "A comparative process was set up and the projects were evaluated according to selected criteria such as originality, research, experience of the production team, and production values. The goal of this process is to increase the number of centres engaged in creative activity for all programming genres eligible for CTF funding, to encourage the creation of quality projects in an increasingly competitive environment, and to support companies' development initiatives."
It should be noted that these applications were received, processed and evaluated in less than eight weeks, as promised under the terms of Telefilm Canada's Client Service Charter, concludes the release.
There are two further deadlines this year for applications under the CTF's Development Financing stream: September 8, 2025, when 25% of envelope funds will be committed, and November 24, 2025, when the remaining 15% will be committed.
