REGINA - Rawlco Radio, owned by Gordon and Doug Rawlinson, last week was revealed as lead donor of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation's "Small is BIG" fundraising campaign for a new Centre for Mother Baby Care. Rawlco contributed 25%, or $1.5 million toward the campaign's $6 million target.
"We are pleased to be able to give back to this community and are proud to be part of this exciting project," said Gordon Rawlinson, CEO of Rawlco Radio. "We grew up in Saskatchewan and we cannot imagine a better place for our gift than directly to the future of the province."
The centre will update and expand the current obstetrical units at the Regina General Hospital. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment as well as equipment to help new mothers and babies feel more at home. Plans for rooms at the centre include larger birthing rooms with emergency equipment, bedroom-like furniture for all private post-delivery rooms, as well as expanded care units.
"Our staff and policies are excellent, but to provide optimal care to mothers and babies, we need new facilities," said Dwight Nelson, CEO of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR). "The new centre will elevate us to the highest national standards of care."
"We are excited to be a part of this project and grateful to our friend and partner for so many years, Rawlco Radio," said Dr. Joy Dobson, campaign chair. "Rawlco's gift will help give every woman and her new baby a beautiful start."
The target date for completion of the Centre for Mother Baby Care is December 2024. It will use existing space within the Regina General Hospital to provide a new, larger and redesigned space for the labour and birth unit, the neonatal intensive care unit, the maternity unit and nurseries. The Government of Saskatchewan and the RQHR will cover capital construction and renovation costs.
The Hospitals of Regina Foundation is a volunteer led, non-profit organization raising funds for the purchase of medical equipment for the Regina General Hospital, the Pasqua Hospital and the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. The Foundation works with individuals, community groups, organizations & businesses in southern Saskatchewan to raise money needed to provide important medical equipment for our hospitals.
Rawlco Radio, a longtime friend and partner of the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, has taken its community involvement to a new level as the lead donor to the "Small is BIG" campaign for the new Centre for Mother Baby Care. Rawlco has a history of service to communities wherever it has radio stations, with the most familiar example in Regina being the Z99 Radiothon in aid of the neonatal intensive care unit at the Regina General Hospital. Rawlco Radio is the owner and operator of 12 radio stations in Saskatchewan.
