TORONTO - Employees of Global Television News in Toronto and Ottawa have ratified a new three year labour agreement with their employer, reports their union.

The agreement covers approximately 160 news production and editorial staff at the parliamentary bureau in Ottawa and at Global Television's production facility in Toronto.

Members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union voted 63% in favour of accepting the new agreement in voting that concluded on Wednesday.

The new agreement provides wage increases of 2.5% retroactive to October 1, 2025, a further 2% on October 1, 2025 and 2.25% on October 1, 2025. Also in the agreement are improvements to layoff provisions, classifications, job posting and travel allowances.

The parties reached a memorandum of settlement last week with the assistance of a federal conciliation officer when seven months of on and off negotiations failed to produce a new agreement, says the CEP release.

In July the Canada Industrial Relations Board is expected to hand down its decision on the union's application to combine twelve CEP bargaining units across the country and more than one-thousand television employees into one new bargaining unit, added the union's release.

Local 722m president, Sean O'Shea, says his members are looking forward to the CIRB decision. "Its been more than a year since the labour board hearings wrapped up," he said, "we are anticipating a positive decision which will allow us to bargain together in future".
