CALGARY - This week's launch of Telesat's Anik F2 satellite will allow for more channels, especially more high definition channels for DTH service Star Choice.

Not only more channels, but customers can "expect more flexibility in choosing the channels they want," said Michael Abram, president of Star Choice in a release. "We're creating packages and offers that meet customers' expectations," he added. The Shaw Communications-owned satellite company has contracted for 16 transponders on the new satellite.

This latest channel expansion will include as many as 18 new channels such as Alliance Atlantis' Fine Living, MCTV - local programming from northern Ontario; and CBC Winnipeg as well as the CBC Northern service.

In addition, three new high definition channels will be added, increasing the HD sports, movies, news, and network content available on Star Choice.

"Quebec has always been recognized by Star Choice as a key market and has strong customer support province wide. Several weeks ago, Star Choice launched the 'Tout En Francais' package, one of the best value packages in the French market. For $29.99 per month, customers get all of the French 'Essentiels' services plus exciting channels including Canal Vie, LCN, Historia, T�l�toon, Musimax and MusiquePlus among many others," says the release.

As part of the 18 new channels, Star Choice will also add several new networks to the French channel line-up, including SRC Edmonton, Sherbrooke TVA, and Sherbrooke TQS.

Star Choice will also launch new, cheaper, digital receivers to its customer base, as well as a DVR box, too.
