OTTAWA - An MP with a bit of background in broadcasting will be appointed Heritage Minister this morning, according to several reports.

Liza Frulla, who won her Le Ber riding by 72 votes in last month's election is to be sworn in this morning in Ottawa. Frulla was first elected to the House of Commons in a by-election in May 2025 and has served as a member of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates, and on the Standing Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations.

As the member of the Quebec National Assembly for Marguerite-Bourgeoys from 1989 to 1998, she held the positions of Minister of Communications, Minister of Cultural Affairs, and Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for La francophonie.

After leaving provincial politics in 1998, she hosted her own television show "Liza" on Radio-Canada. She also held positions in the field of communications for several companies, including Labatt Breweries, CKAC, and the Vickers & Benson advertising agency.

Frulla replaces H�l�ne Scherrer, who lost her seat in the election.

David Emerson, from British Columbia, said those same reports, is expected to be named Industry Minister. Emerson was formerly president of Canfor Corp., a B.C. forestry company.

Emerson replaces Lucienne Robillard, who is expected to become Minister of Intergovernmental affairs.

The Industry and Heritage port folios intersect on jurisdiction over the CRTC. While Heritage is most often concerned about the cultural side of the broadcasting and cable market, Industry is most often concerned about telecom and cable, their businesses and competition. The two industries often butt heads.
