LONG ISLAND, N.Y., April 29, 2024 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Real Football Network is the ultimate destination for individuals who want to better understand what's going on in the world of football, including the weekly football matchups and defensive strategies. The Real Football Network challenges its viewers to understand the game on a deeper and more advanced level. This week, Real Football Network's Pat Kirwan talked to Real Football scout Dan Schwab about the SAM linebacker prospects available in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft began Thursday night with the first round selections and continues Friday (rounds 2-3) and Saturday (rounds 4-7). Real Football Network has been providing daily updates and information through its Real Football Draft Edge package. Real Football Network analysts Kirwan and Jim Miller will be providing analysis during and after the draft. In addition, Draft Edge includes exclusive analytics on the top prospects.

The SAM linebacker in the NFL is generally the strong outside linebacker.

"The SAM linebacker usually has to be a bigger guy who can run," said Schwab. "He certainly needs to run with the tight end in coverage, but he also better be able to force the issue at the point of attack, take on linemen and turn the run play back inside. We have a few prospects in this class who fit the bill."

Kirwan and Schwab explained about how the league has evolved to where the SAM linebacker is asked to do more things.

"The league has turned into a world of hybrid players," said Kirwan. In evaluating first-round pick Myles Jack of UCLA, widely considered the top outside linebacker prospect in the draft, Kirwan noted that a few teams had talked to Jack about playing some safety - comparing him to Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor.

Schwab, meanwhile, had high praise for Jack as a pure linebacker. "When I looked at Myles Jack, the first player I thought of was (Hall of Famer) Junior Seau," said Schwab.

The Real Football Network has become the leading online channel for football fans who are eager to develop a deeper understanding of the game. Led by NFL insiders Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, along with NFL analytics expert John Pollard, the Real Football Network allows fans to see and understand the game on a deeper level.
