Pierre Juneau former head of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has died at the age of 89.
Juneau joined the National Film Board in 1949 and became head of its French-language production. Juneau was a co-founder of the Montreal International Film Festival and served as its president until 1968.
Juneau was appointed Chairman of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 1968 and was a crusader for Canadian content. He created the first minimum standards for Canadian content on television and radio.
He went on to become CBC president in 1982. In 1987 he spearheaded the creation of CBC's 24-hour English language news channel, then called Newsworld.
Juneau was an officer of the Order of Canada
