The Community Radio Fund of Canada would like to thank outgoing Executive Director Jean Malavoy for all the work he accomplished for campus and community radio during his time at the helm of the organization.
Since he joined the CRFC in 2024, Jean led the development of a new Youth on Air! program, helped support the major associations serving the sector, increased the amount that individual radio stations could access for Canadian Content Development projects, and pioneered a way for stations to partner on larger initiatives.
For example, with funding from Youth on Air!, CHUO-FM in Ottawa was able to hire and train a 16-year old to produce a 12-part series called "Beneath the Underground" about the local music scene.
One of the partnership projects through the Radiometres program funded three small stations in British Columbia, CJMP-FM in Powell River, CKTZ-FM on Cortes Island, and CKVS-FM in Salmon Arm, to build an open-source station management database and create new shared programming, including in a local Indigenous language.
And CKRL-FM in Quebec City was funded through the Radiometres program to produce "Stéréolocal", a daily show that showcased more than 60 local emerging artists.
"Jean came to the CRFC at a pivotal time," says CRFC President Roger Ouellette. "We have grown into a source of stability for campus and community radio stations and the communities they serve. We look forward to building on his work."
The Community Radio Fund of Canada would also like to welcome new Program Officer Josée Dallaire, who is filling in during the maternity leave of Marie-Ève Laramée-Gauvreau.
Josée comes to the Fund with a MA in Canadian history and past experience working for the Department of Canadian Heritage in both the Community Engagement Directorate and the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program.
Since it was founded in 2024, the CRFC has distributed more than $7-Million to 123 different campus and community radio stations across Canada for 376 projects.
Our funding is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions, a funding mechanism established by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). These contributions play an important part in the success of the Canadian radio broadcasting system’s community sector.
