Global Okanagan announced today the return of its hour-long CHBC NEWS @ 5 newscast, beginning Monday, July 11. Helmed by popular, long-time CHBC News Anchor and Producer Rick Webber, the launch of CHBC News @ 5 is part of a larger effort to solidify its position as the area's most watched news provider.
Taking advantage of Global Okanagan's extensive news gathering resources, the re-launched CHBC News @ 5 will provide Okanagan-Shuswap residents with an extra half-hour of comprehensive coverage every weeknight, live from its downtown Kelowna studios. Klaudia Ceglarz will continue to helm the CHBC News @ 6:30 newscast, while the newly hired Jonathan Glasgow will take over as anchor of CHBC News @ 11:00. In total, Global Okanagan will now offer viewers over 15 hours of local news coverage every week; unmatched in the region.
"The return of the CHBC News @ 5 is the cornerstone of our plan to boost Global Okanagan's ability to present the news that matters most to our viewers," says Dennis Gabelhouse, Global Okanagan Station Manager. "Our new tools and delivery systems, paired with our new newscasts, will provide a whole new level of local news coverage."
To further extend its reporting footprint across the area, Global Okanagan is also pleased to announce the return of its live news reporting capability from Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. Global Okanagan will also begin transmitting in HD beginning today on SHAW Cable and on August 15, 2024 Global Okanagan will also be made available on the SHAW Direct satellite service, a move that has been much anticipated by viewers in the region not currently on cable.
