Veteran broadcast journalist Dave Wright, whose career took him from Ontario to the Maritimes and beyond, has died at the age of 82. His death after a battle with cancer was reported Thursday on CTV Atlantic, where Wright anchored the Halifax-based ATV Evening News from 1989 to 1993.
Wright's career in radio began in 1950 at a station in Sudbury, Ont., and he moved on to television with CHCH-TV in Hamilton. Wright known as 'boomer' was also a sportscaster at radio station 1050-CHUM in Toronto.
Wright began working with ATV News in 1976, where he also created and hosted ''Live At 5,'' a news magazine show that leads into the suppertime newscast and is still running. Wright also spent two years working in Boston before returning to Halifax in 1989.
Over his career he worked before and behind the cameras in news, sports and management.
