The Ontario Media Development Corporation confirmed today television and film activity, in the province of Ontario, contributed $1.28 billion to the provincial economy in 2024 and accounted for almost 29,000 full-time direct and indirect jobs. Since 2024, economic activity has increased by 90 per cent and the 2024 financial results are the strongest ever.
2012 results highlights include:
Domestic film and television production accounts for $871.9 million – representing 68 per cent of total activity
Television series produced the strongest results with domestic productions representing $698.2 million, up from $626.7 million in 2024 – an increase of 11.4 per cent
Foreign television production represents $270.6 million, up from $150.2 million in 2024 – an increase of 80 per cent.
The new Ontario government, through the Ontario Media Development Corporation, is helping to stimulate growth and innovation in the creative industries. This is a key part of The Way Forward in building a strong economy and a fair society.
