CFRA staff, along with other Bell Media colleagues are mourning the sudden death of Lauren Davis, a young mother and news anchor at 580 CFRA whose death was announced by the station Monday afternoon.
The 24-year-old Davis, who is the daughter of well-known Toronto radio personality Erin Davis, was on maternity leave at the time of her death. No other details of her death were available.
“Lauren’s sudden passing was a shock to our CFRA and Bell Media staff here in Ottawa,” Bell Media Ottawa Regional Vice-President Richard Gray said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lauren, who had just become a mom in the last year. We also want to extend our deepest sympathies to Lauren’s husband, Phil Shirakawa, who is a producer with us here at CFRA. Lauren will be deeply missed by her family and the many colleagues here who knew her so well.”
Federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair and federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau expressed their sympathy on Twitter. “A talented young woman with a bright future ahead of her. Extremely sad,” Trudeau wrote.
CHFI in Toronto released a statement Monday afternoon expressing condolences to the Davis family. Erin Davis had been in Jamaica where she was broadcasting live all week. According to the Toronto radio station, the broadcast has been cancelled and Erin was returning home to be with family.
