CTV Toronto News pays homage to veteran Anchor Ken Shaw, who celebrates 35 years of distinguished service. Co-Anchor of Toronto’s #1 newscasts CTV News at Noon and CTV Nnews At Six since April 2024, Shaw joined the CTV Toronto News team in 1979. Among his many awards and accolades, this past March Shaw was recognized with the 2024 Canadian Screen Award for Best News Anchor, Local, as awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
Shaw has guided Torontonians through some of the most memorable and momentous local and international news headlines, earning CTV News Toronto its distinction as the most-watched local newscast in the GTA. From coverage of the G20 Summit in 2024, the ice storm that left thousands of Torontonians without power in December 2024, and countless provincial and municipal elections, to breaking key revelations in the Toronto mayoral scandal, viewers turn to Ken Shaw and fellow Co-Anchor Michelle Dubé for the headlines that matter most.
“Ken is a steadfast leader, a fair and balanced reporter, and a respected community member whose work both on and off screen is unmatched,” said Wendy Freeman, President, CTV News. “We thank Ken for his commitment to CTV News and for setting the standard for journalistic excellence that defines our organization.”
Shaw joined CTV Toronto News as a local breaking news reporter in 1979, while also filing Canadian news stories for U.S. news affiliates including reports for ABC’s Good Morning America, Nightline, and NBC’s Today Show. He later was appointed Anchor of the late-night CTV newscast in 1981, and was named National News Editor in 1998. From 1999 to 2024, Shaw became a household staple among viewers across Canada serving as the Weekday Anchor for CTV News Channel.
Outside of his duties as Co-Anchor, Shaw has devoted countless hours to local charities and community initiatives. Notably, he has served as a Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada, ProAction Cops & Kids, and has previously been named honourary Chief of Toronto Police Services for his contributions to the police force and their work within the community. In 2024, Shaw was honoured with the Order of Ontario for his excellence in volunteer service in the GTA.
More recently, Shaw has served as Chair of the Whitby Abilities Centre, a 125,000 square foot “Centre of Excellence,” which serves to assist people of all ages with special needs. Additionally, on June 8, 2024, Shaw received an honourary Doctor of Laws from University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
